Easter, or what I prefer to call it “Resurrection Day,” is on April 1st this year commonly April Fool’s Day. Honestly, I’m not looking forward to the jokes the enemies of Christ will tell. “You would have to be a fool to believe someone would rise from the dead” or “This is the day all of the fools get together in churches across the country to celebrate a dead man.” I’m sure they will be much more creative than I have been.
Peter, an eyewitness to the resurrection of Jesus, must have seen it coming. He once wrote, “For we did not follow cleverly devised stories (or myths) when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” (2 Peter 1:16). Paul mentioned that over 500 people literally saw Jesus raised from the dead and go up into heaven (1 Cor. 15:6). Throughout the first century, countless died, not for a belief, but because of who they saw, Jesus risen from the dead.
Paul also said that if Christ had not risen from the dead then everything else about the Christian faith is literally worthless. The resurrection of Jesus is the proof that everything Jesus said and did was verified by God. The reason I’m a believer in Jesus is not because of my parents, not because of a convincing argument or even peer pressure. I’m a believer in Jesus because He rose from the dead. Maybe the real April fool is on the one who doesn’t believe in the resurrection.
